Welcome to our simple English blog about the Huon Valley. We write this blog for backpackers on a working holiday and for other travellers like you.

So, you want to work near Huonville…

Are you on a working holiday visa in Australia and you want to come to Tasmania? If you’re reading this during COVID, you need to have a farm job before you come. (You can learn more about the COVID rules in my last post.)

We want to tell you about some good farms to work at near Huonville, in the Huon Valley of far south Tasmania. The Huon Valley is a beautiful area of apple orchards, cherry farms, and vineyards. There are several good farms here for working-holiday makers.

We will tell you about some of them over the next few months. Today we will start with the farm closest to Pilgrim Hill. (Pilgrim Hill is our off-grid, family run, backpackers hostel for working-holiday makers like you. If you need a place to stay, you can book here. We offer free shuttle rides to local farms)

Lucaston Park Orchards

Lucaston Park Orchards (LPO) is a farm run by a family, with three generations working together. They grow raspberries, cherries, apples, pears, quinces, and other fruit. And they make juice and cider.

LPO is a friendly place to work with good pay. They have indoor packing jobs, and outdoor picking jobs. The family at LPO works very hard, and they will expect you to work hard too. And you should be very reliable about coming to work. If this sounds like a good fit for you, you will find a good community and good pay at LPO.

You can contact Lucaston Park Orchards through their Facebook page here.

Till next week, safe travels!
